Fat, skin and glandular tissue are removed using liposuction and surgical excision. In many cases, the nipples and breasts are both elevated to provide a more youthful appearance. The circumference of the areola may be reduced as well.

Recovering from Surgery: Breast Reduction Post-Operative Steps

Your recovery time will be approximately 1-2 weeks after breast reduction. Dr. Howrigan will give you special instructions to closely follow as you recuperate. A special supportive bra will need to be worn for a few weeks, day and night.

In many cases, there are surgical drains in place to collect fluid after surgery. These are often removed the next day, before you leave the hospital. You will likely experience some aching, swelling, changes in skin sensation and bruising after surgery.  To manage discomfort, Dr. Howrigan may prescribe pain medication.
