The nose is the focal point of the face. When it is out of proportion to the other facial features, it can negatively affect your facial appearance and self-confidence. You may feel that your nose is too large or desire a change in its shape. In these cases, rhinoplasty can make a significant improvement.
Nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty, can change many aspects of the nose to bring it into balance with the rest of your face. Dr. Howrigan will discuss your goals and work with you to achieve a result that is natural and attractive.
Rhinoplasty may be performed if your nose is large, crooked, humped, wide or disproportionate. Good candidates for this procedure are not using nasal medications or illicit drugs and have realistic expectations about cosmetic surgery.
Nasal surgery requires about 1-3 hours and is carried out as an outpatient procedure. The surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. During surgery, Dr. Howrigan reshapes the tissues of the nose from within to achieve a more balanced nasal shape.
Following surgery, a splint will be in place while the healing occurs. The splint is removed a week later, and the changes will be visible.
Subtle swelling of the nose will subside in the following weeks to months. During this time, you'll be advised to avoid activities that could potentially impact the nose. The final result of rhinoplasty will be a nose that enhances your natural appearance and increases your self-confidence.
